INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 30, 2021) — Indiana’s corn and soybean farmers are invited to the Hyatt Place Fishers in Fishers, Ind., on Thursday, Dec. 2 for the 2021 Indiana Ag Policy Forum, hosted by the Indiana Soybean Alliance Membership and Policy (M&P) Committee and the Indiana Corn Growers Association (ICGA) and presented by premier sponsor FMC. The Forum is free to attend. To register, visit www.indianasoybean.com/forum or www.incorn.org/forum

The Forum will feature several speakers who will talk about the policies that may impact your farm this spring and beyond. The presentations include:

  • Ken Eriksen of business information analyst IHS Markit will discuss supply chain disruptions.
  • Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek will talk about U.S. infrastructure needs and logistics.
  • AgriNovus CEO Mitch Frazier will discuss how leaders across Indiana are attracting agbioscience economic growth.
  • Event sponsor Bane-Welker Equipment will talk about new precision ag technology.

The supply chain is vital to farmers’ success and profitability. The Indiana Soybean Alliance, along with partners such as the Soy Transportation Coalition (STC), the United Soybean Board (USB), the U.S. Soy Export Council (USSEC) and the American Soybean Association (ASA), work to improve the infrastructure that moves soybeans to buyers around the world. Steenhoek said the STC exists to promote cost effective, reliable and competitive transportation systems to serve U.S. agriculture. The STC was established in 2007 and is comprised of USB, ASA and 13 state soybean boards – including Indiana.

Steenhoek’s responsibilities include communicating the importance of transportation issues to soybean growers and processors, creating the organization’s strategic direction and building collaborations with other effected industries. Steenhoek is a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness, and the Transportation Research Board’s Committee on Inland Water Transportation.

Frazier will talk about Indiana’s expanding agbioscience economy. From value-added food to animal health to crop protection and Ag Tech, Indiana’s $52 billion agbioscience economy is diverse and growing. AgriNovus Indiana’s mission is to work across the state and around the world to fuel $4 billion of economic growth in Indiana by 2024 and to explore how leaders can work together to gain more of the agbioscience market.

IHS Markit is a business information provider based in London, England. Investors around the world rely upon HIS Markit’s advice on a variety of economic issues – such as supply chain disruptions – before making critical decisions. Eriksen leads the IHS Markit agribusiness Client Advisory and Development, Energy and Transportation, and Policy groups. Since joining the company in 2001, Eriksen has led the company’s Transportation, Industrials and Energy Services group and was a co-leader of the IHS Markit Agribusiness Consulting group. Prior to joining the company, Eriksen worked for USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service as a statistician.

Attendees are welcome to take a grab-and-go, boxed BBQ lunch, or stay on site for a social hour after the presentations conclude. For more details, email Industry Affairs Program Manager Rachel Conner at rconner@indianasoybean.com
